🍂 Uptown vs Downtown Patio Index — Fall Edition
One Bloomington patio is lighting fire pits on purpose — and this week's weather is cooperating.

🍂 One Bloomington patio is lighting fire pits on purpose — and this week's weather is cooperating
Keg Grove Brewing Company spent the week posting its patio in its own words: "a very cozy patio WITH 🔥FIRE PITS🔥," garage doors open, chili on. The National Weather Service backs the play — 74° and sunny Wednesday, 75° Thursday, 74° Friday and Saturday, 77° Sunday, with sunset at 6:08 PM as the week opens. That is not patio season hanging on. That is patio season, extended, with fire.
This is the Patio Index's fall rule: a patio only makes the list when the venue itself says it's running. Here is who clears that bar this week.
🔥 Bloomington side — Keg Grove Brewing Company, 712 E Empire St (off the Constitution Trail)
The strongest fall signal in town, because Keg Grove keeps posting it. In this week's own posts (carried on their own site, keggrovebrewing.com):
- The fires are lit. Their Monday post pairs the patio with "🔥FIRE PITS🔥" and "open garage door vibes" — and at Kegtoberfest last weekend they posted "cozy fires as the sun sets" while the Normal Accordion Club played on the patio at 3 PM and Prohibition 309 fired wood-fired pizzas at 3 PM.
- #MollyMonday is a patio night with a tab: homemade chili, free while supplies last, and $5 pints, per their own post.

Decision it changes: if you have one outdoor night left in you this season, this is the one where the venue has already committed — fire, food, and a mid-70s runway through the weekend.
☂️ Normal side — DESTIHL, covered on purpose
DESTIHL's own published description of its Towanda Ave restaurant promises a covered patio for al fresco dining, weather permitting — and a roof is the difference between a patio you hope for and a patio you can plan on: when a fall shower wanders through, covered is still seated (destihl.com).
The Beer Hall side adds the detail dog people actually plan around, again in DESTIHL's own words: "Well-behaved, leashed dogs are always welcome on our patio" (Beer Hall + Barrel Room page).
- Details: DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works · 318 S Towanda Ave, Normal · (309) 862-2337 · DESTIHL Brewery & Beer Hall · 1200 Greenbriar Dr, Normal · (309) 420-0159
🌇 Uptown — Medici's rooftop: listed, not posted
Medici's own site lists the room plainly: the restaurant runs "two floors, including two bars, our rooftop patio and a loft space" (medicinormal.com). What Medici has not posted is a fall schedule for that rooftop — no heated claim, no October hours for the deck.
So the index marks it honestly: unposted, not closed. The rooftop is real; the fall plan is yours to confirm before you climb (120 North St, Uptown Normal). The first venue post that puts the rooftop on a fall schedule moves it onto this list the same week.
The week's patio math (National Weather Service, Lincoln IL office)
- Wed Oct 21: Sunny, high 74° · Thu Oct 22: Sunny, high 75° · Fri Oct 23: Sunny, high 74°
- Sat Oct 24: Mostly sunny, high 74° · Sun Oct 25: Mostly sunny, high 77°
- Rain chances sit at 0–2% through Sunday; evenings cool into the high 40s and low 50s — which is precisely what the fire pits are for.

The verdict
Uptown vs Downtown gets its rematch in the spring, when this index returns in full. October's version has a clear leader: the fires are on the Bloomington side, the roof is on the Normal side, and the week — 74 to 77 degrees, dry through Sunday — belongs to whoever gets outside before 6:08 PM.
Send this to the one person who already put their patio furniture away for the year — the fire pits on Empire Street say they were two weeks early.
One word back: fireside, covered, or rooftop — reply with the one word and the spring index leads with the winner.
