🛣️ Out-of-Towner Highway Alert: I-74 / I-55 / Route 150

IDOT's current word on the highways through town — closures, narrowing, and what through-drivers should expect.

A railroad crossing closes eastbound U.S. 150 on Monday — and takes White Oak Road with it for four days.

IDOT is rebuilding the railroad crossing where Market Street — that's Illinois 9 and U.S. 150, the same pavement — crosses White Oak Road on Bloomington's west side. Work begins Mon., Oct. 26: the eastbound lanes of Market Street close, and White Oak Road closes completely for four days. Detours will be posted. If your route into or across Bloomington runs on 150, it needs a second thought starting Monday. IDOT release, Oct. 16

🚗 U.S. 150 / Market Street Bloomington — the decision: eastbound through-drivers get detoured at the crossing; westbound keeps its lanes but shares the road with everyone who waited too long to merge. Coming in from the west — Pekin side — build the detour into the trip or come in on I-74 instead. White Oak Road drivers: it's not a slowdown, it's a wall, for four days. IDOT

🚗 I-55 south, at Funks Grove McLean County — the decision: heading out toward Springfield and St. Louis, IDOT's map carries a $22 million I-55 project at Funks Grove, with traffic down to one lane in each direction while the work is active. It's ten minutes out of town — close enough that the merge sets the tone for the whole drive south. Leave ten minutes earlier than the app tells you. IDOT Bloomington-Normal area projects map

🚗 I-74, both directions Bloomington + Normal — the decision: no current IDOT release flags work on the I-74 stretch through town this week, and the big I-55-to-Carlock job — $37 million of drainage, patching, and ramp work — had a listed window that ended in August 2026. Eastbound, one tail to watch: at Champaign, the ramp from eastbound I-74 to southbound I-57 closed Oct. 6 for about two weeks per IDOT, which puts its reopening right at this week — don't plan a tight connection on it until you've looked. 🌤️ The sky is not the problem Bloomington + Normal. Thursday runs 75° and sunny, Friday 74°, and there are no active weather alerts for McLean County. This is the rare fall week where the forecast gives you nothing to blame — the crossing on Market Street is the whole story. National Weather Service

One-word reply: 55, 74, or 150 — which one takes you out of town? Reply with just the number; the road most of you drive gets the deepest watch next week.

Send this to the one person driving in this weekend — they'll thank you at the Funks Grove merge, and again when Market Street isn't a surprise on Monday.
